Cultural Assimilation: Folklorization of the Native Culture

As part of cultural assimilation, aggressors may deliberately reduce the rich and multifaceted culture of the Indigenous people to primitive, entertainment-oriented, or exclusively rural folklore. Pushing local traditions out of the academic, philosophical, and urban spheres into the category of archaic ethnography allows the colonizer to artificially secure for its own culture the status of the sole bearer of progress and civilization.
