The Case of Pavlo Polubotok (1723)
The establishment by Peter I of the First Little Russian Collegium to wrest governance away from the hetman administration. It was accompanied by the arrest of acting hetman Pavlo Polubotok and the Cossack starshyna for submitting petitions in defense of autonomy, which ended with the hetman's death in the Peter and Paul Fortress[1].
