Abolition of the Cossack Order in Sloboda Ukraine (1765)

An imperial reform aimed at liquidating the military-social structure of Slobozhanshchyna. The Cossack regiments were abolished, the Cossacks were stripped of their privileges and reduced to the status of state peasants ("military inhabitants"), and the territory was turned into an ordinary Russian governorate[1].
